Professor S Sivakumar, Professor, Physics, School of Interwoven Arts and Sciences (SIAS) and Dean – Research, Krea University has penned an article in The Hindu titled, Willow is a small chip for Google but a quantum leap for computing.
The article discusses Google’s latest quantum processor, Willow, its testing and results. It also deep dives into the power of quantum information processing and the hope that quantum computers may soon help us solve some of the biggest challenges in the world, all with deep societal impact.

Soumyabrata Basu, PhD scholar, IFMR GSB presented a paper examining the impact of Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code on Indian firms at the Cross Disciplinary Knowledge Data Research (XKDR) Forum’s Conference held in Mumbai on 10 December 2024. On 19 December 2024, he also presented the paper at the India Finance Conference (IFC) held at IIM Raipur. The paper is co-authored with Dr Praveen Bhagawan, Associate Professor, Finance, Accounting and Quantitative Finance & Area Chair – Finance, Accounting and Quantitative Finance, IFMR GSB and Dr Jyoti Prasad Mukhopadhyay, Associate Professor, Economics and Chairperson – PhD, IFMR GSB.

Dr Rangachary Kommanduri, Visiting Professor, Data Science, SIAS presented a paper titled, ‘Enhanced Semantic-Driven Anomaly Detection: A Multi-Class Strategy for Video Data’ at the 9th International Conference on Computer Vision & Image Processing (CVIP 2024) held at IIITDM Kancheepuram from 19 – 21 December 2024.
The paper, co-authored with Dr Mrinmoy Ghorai (Assistant Professor, Indian Institute of Information Technology, Sri City), proposes the Squeeze-Attentive Encoder Network (SAE-Net), a novel architecture that integrates semantic-driven analysis and channel-wise feature recalibrated attention for precise multi-class anomaly detection in videos.

Pratibha Jain, PhD scholar, IFMR GSB presented a case at the Ivey Case Study conference in IIM Nagpur. The case was written under the guidance (co-author) of Dr Pallavi Pandey, Assistant Professor and Area Chair – OB & HR, IFMR GSB. The case is titled, ‘Empowering Marginalized Communities through Sustainable Management: Lessons from a Grassroots NGO in Rajasthan.’ The conference was conducted from 21 – 22 December 2024.

Dr Soumya Dey, Assistant Professor, Mathematics, SIAS, organised the Symposium on Geometry and Topology as part of the 39th Annual Conference of the Ramanujan Mathematical Society, held at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Kengeri campus, Bengaluru, from 27 to 29 December 2024. Dr Dey invited 16 mathematicians from across the country as invited speakers for the symposium, including two faculty members from Krea University — Dr C P Anil Kumar, Assistant Professor, Mathematics, SIAS and Dr Gangotryi Sorcar, Assistant Professor, Mathematics, SIAS.

Dr Debankur Saha, Assistant Professor, Marketing, IFMR GSB participated in the Pulicat Bird Atlas, a three-day bird count survey organised by IISER Tirupati. The event brought together bird enthusiasts from across India, including students from Krea University. The survey took place in the ecologically rich areas of Pulicat Lake and Sri City, where the team had the opportunity to observe over 150 bird species. This study was significant as it contributed to the ongoing efforts to monitor and conserve biodiversity in the region.

The bird count provided valuable data on bird populations, distribution and habitat preferences, which are crucial for understanding ecological trends and guiding conservation strategies.
|

|
The Mystic South Youth Summit, co-organised by Krea University and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), was held at Krea's Sri City campus on 21 December 2024. The event featured industry leaders such as our Chancellor, Lakshmi Narayanan, T T Ashok, Managing Director, Taylor Rubber Pvt Ltd and CII Chairman for the Southern Region, Dr Shankar Venugopal, CTO of Mahindra & Mahindra, Reji Joseph, Vice-President of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) Chennai, CII office holders, students and faculty. Together they had an engaging discussion on how South India is poised to lead in key sectors contributing to India's ambitious goal of becoming a $30 trillion economy by 2047.
Following addresses by our Chancellor and the industry leaders, Krea students and alumni from abroad took centre stage, delivering insightful talks on emerging technologies, sustainable energy, the future of mobility in rapidly growing cities, and the importance of preserving and propagating cultural heritage to foster a robust economy.

Krea students also actively engaged with CII members and industry leaders driving discussions on the pragmatic implementation of what was proposed in their talks.

The Mathematics discipline hosted a talk titled Higher order time discretization for the stochastic semilinear wave equation with multiplicative noise by Professor Akash Ashirbad Panda, Assistant Professor, IIT Bhubaneswar on 23 December 2024.

The Psychology discipline hosted a talk titled Somatosensory Dysfunctions in Schizophrenia - Vibrotactile Perception in High Schizotypy Individuals by Professor Leslee Lazar, Associate Teaching Professor, Department of Cognitive and Brain Sciences, IIT Gandhinagar on 23 December 2024.

The Centre for Writing & Pedagogy, Krea University (Krea-CWP) and the Mathematics discipline is presenting an online symposium titled ‘Reflections on the Teaching of Reading & Writing in STEMM’ to be held between 17-19 January 2025. This event aims to bring together global scholars and practitioners to discuss and reflect on the importance of reading and writing in STEMM disciplines. The Guests of Honour are Dr Anannya Dasgupta, Director, Krea-CWP; Professor KN Raghavan, Mathematics Discipline and Professor K VijayRaghavan, Former Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India.
