International Symposium

Turzo Nicholas Mondal, PhD scholar, Anthropology, School of Interwoven Arts & Sciences (SIAS), has presented his latest research on contemporary linguistic equivalence in Bengal, at the 53rd Annual Conference on South Asia, organised by the University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA. At the event, Dr Annu Jalais, Associate Professor, Anthropology, SIAS, premiered her co-directed film Bonobibi: The Women of the Forest, spotlighting the forest deity of the Sundarbans.

 

Writing Workshop

Nangsel Sherpa, Faculty Teaching Associate, Centre for Writing and Pedagogy (Krea-CWP), facilitated six workshops at the Indigenous Women’s Writing Residency held in Lalitpur, Nepal, from 16 - 18 October 2025. The residency, organised by The Pomelo with the support of Goethe-Zentrum Kathmandu and in collaboration with GAN Resource and Learning Centre (GRLC), brought together indigenous women from across Nepal. Conference Presentation-INMS 2025

Dr Sarabjeet D Natesan, Associate Professor, Economics, SIAS, presented an autoethnographic work titled Burden of Inherited Stories-Violence of Abandoned Dreams, at the opening session of the Indian Network of Memory Studies (INMS), organised by IIT-Madras, held on 27 October 2025.

 

Paper Presentation

Gautham Anil Warrier, Teaching Fellow, Sociology and Social Anthropology, SIAS, presented a paper titled I Mis(s)read the Film I Saw the TV Glow: On the Trans*-Crip Practices of Surviving Cisableism at the Trans*Abundance Symposium, organised by CSGS, Ashoka University, in collaboration with the Gender Studies Programme at the University of Melbourne, held on 29 October 2025.

 

Spotlight

Soumyabrata Basu, a final-year IFMR Graduate School of Business (GSB) PhD scholar, has joined Misra Centre for Financial Markets and Economy at the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad as a Research Fellow. Basu’s doctoral research focussed on the ‘Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code in India’ under the supervision of Dr  Praveen Bhagwan, Associate Professor, Finance, Accounting and Quantitative Finance, IFMR GSB.

Krea Partners with Johns Hopkins for Global+1 Programme

Dr Arindam Chatterjee, Post-Doctoral Fellow,  Biological Sciences, SIAS, has been selected as a Review Editor/Community Reviewer for the Molecular Diagnostics and Therapeutics section, in the journal Frontiers in Molecular Biosciences (Q1; impact factor 4). The journal is indexed in major international digital archives and repositories, including PubMed Central, DOAJ, Google Scholar, Chemical Abstracts Service, and Scopus. Know More

Dr Proma Raychaudhury, Assistant Professor, Politics, SIAS, published a chapter on Women's Institutional Belonging and Self-making in Indian Party Politics, in an edited volume titled Gendering Party Politics: Feminist Institutionalist Perspectives.

Professor Jayaram Ramakrishnan, Professor of Practice, Finance, IFMR GSB has authored an article titled Is ABC for MSME's too? - The Answer is an Emphatic YES – Case study of an MSME Pressure die casting Unit. The article has been published in MSME Titbits, the bi-monthly flagship Journal of MSME and Start-Up Promotion Board of The Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMAI), in the Volume 5 of 25 October 2025 edition. The Department of Literature hosted a conversation titled ‘Scenes from the Archives’ between Professor Kai Easton, Professor, Literature and Visual Cultures, SIAS, and Dr Joya John, Assistant Professor, Literature, SIAS, on 29 October 2025. The discussion drew on Professor Easton's experience working with the archives of Nobel Laureate J M Coetzee.

Dr Annie Tubadji, Assistant Professor, Swansea University, delivered a talk titled ‘Culture Based Development: A paradigm shift in Economic Modelling and Regional Policy’, on 30 October 2025.

 

Filter Coffee, Unfiltered Conversation

The first coffee conversation of the trimester, held on 30 October 2025, featured Professor Varun Vishwanath, Visiting Associate Professor, Psychology, SIAS; Arjun Singh, Teaching Fellow, Psychology, SIAS; and Khumdhana Varma, Research Assistant, Psychology, SIAS. Their talk, ‘AI as a Therapist,’ explored the growing role of artificial intelligence in mental health, examining whether empathy can be encoded and how AI might reshape care, connection, and healing.

 

Odissi Performance

The Office of Student Life (OSL), in collaboration with SPIC MACAY, hosted the performance of the celebrated Odissi dancer and Sangeet Natak Akademi Award recipient Vidushi Sujata Mohapatra on 30 October 2025. The showcase was set to Raag Bhageshri, with music composed by Pandit Damodara Hota, and choreographed by Guru Ratikant Mohapatra, also a Sangeet Natak Akademi Award winner for Dance – Odissi.
