Tate curve is the name given to a family of curves constructed by John Tate. These curves may be the correct p-adic analogue of the classical construction of elliptic curves over the field of complex numbers. Later, Tate developed a formalism of a new geometry, which in addition to explaining his construction more conceptually, also allows for the construction of a more general class of objects called rigid analytic varieties. This talk aims to give a short introduction to the construction of the Tate curve.
