A Round-up of the Kreaverse
As summer intensifies, Krea’s usual buzz momentarily quiets, offering a much-needed pause and respite from the heat. Final-year students step into new chapters — some gearing up for higher studies, others diving into their professional journeys. Meanwhile, many are deep into internships and externships, while a few are still tackling their final exams.
Faculty members, as always, stay busy shaping minds and pushing the boundaries of knowledge. While the campus might quiet down for a bit, a lineup of exciting camps is set to keep the energy buzzing in the coming days. Before long, convocation preparations will kick into high gear, bringing back Krea’s familiar hustle and bustle!
These moments of pause offer a chance to recharge before the next busy phase. So, here’s to making the most of this interlude — before Krea’s momentum picks up once again!

Dr Sambaiah Gundimeda, Associate Professor, Politics, School of Interwoven Arts and Sciences (SIAS) was invited to speak on the panel Caste and Equality at NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, during its annual conference on The Courts and the Constitution, held from 29 - 30 March 2025. He discussed a recent Supreme Court verdict on the sub-classification of Scheduled Caste reservations in Davinder Singh v State of Punjab, 2024. Dr Gundimeda critiqued Justice Bela Trivedi’s dissenting opinion that asserts Scheduled Castes (SCs) should be treated as a homogeneous group without internal divisions. Instead, he emphasised the diversity within SCs, the dominance of certain Dalit sub-castes in availing reservation benefits and the structural inequalities that necessitate sub-classification.
He argued that true justice is not merely about treating all SCs as equals but ensuring that the most marginalised within the category receive the support they need. Additionally, he addressed broader themes of structural injustice, representation and systemic barriers that hinder equitable access to opportunities for the most disadvantaged SC sub-groups.

This past weekend (21 and 22 March 2025), Rangasthala, Theatre Club, SIAS, transported audiences into the gripping world of Vishal Bhardwaj's Omkara through an unforgettable open-air performance. The adaptation took place at the college's Open Air Theatre (OAT), where the entire space was used to heighten the experience. Whether at the top of the OAT, among the audience, or behind them, every corner of the OAT was used to make the audience feel like they are a part of the show.
The cast, crew, directors, producers, scriptwriters, and ad-hoc team members put in tremendous effort to bring Omkara to life. The outdoor setting not only amplified the emotional tension of the narrative but also allowed for innovative staging, drawing the audience into the world of the characters.
With dynamic set designs, evocative lighting, surround sound, props, realistic makeup and costumes, engaging performances and beautiful dances, the production was a testament to the hard work and creativity of the entire team. Each element of the performance worked in harmony to create an immersive environment that captivated the audience and kept them on the edge of their seats.
The evening was not just a play but an experience — one that will be remembered for its unique approach, its powerful storytelling, and the passion of everyone involved. We cannot wait to see what Rangasthala will showcase next. It was directed by Anchal Negi and Sanika Chavan, and produced by Raagini Rajan and Saanvi Saurabh. The assistant director was Siddharth Pashikanti.

A Prelude – A Night to Remember
Band Baaja Baarat, featuring — Uktasri Doki, Aditya Trigunayat, Catherine Jaison, Hera Lalan, and Vasumana Sharma, took the stage on 31 March 2025 for their mini-concert, Svarah: The Prelude, delivering a performance that left students buzzing. Their carefully curated setlist flowed seamlessly across genres and languages, showcasing the band’s signature style in every song. From soulful melodies to high-energy anthems, the crowd was hooked from start to finish.
Adding to the magic, other artistes Srinidhi Pennathur, Ishaan Kurian, Kush Verma, Purvikalyani Prasannah and Saishreya Sethuraman elevated the night with their incredible talent, making the event truly unforgettable.
But it wasn’t just the setlist or guest performances that made the night special. After their final song, the crowd erupted in chants for an encore. With a knowing glance among the band members, they delivered a spontaneous performance of Beedi from Omkara — one of their earliest songs. The surprise twist had the entire auditorium singing along, turning an already electric atmosphere into an all-out celebration. If Svarah: The Prelude was just the beginning, we can’t wait for the full production.

Sangam: An Indian Classical Showcase
On 2 April 2025, Mukti, the Indian dance crew, collaborated with Layam, the Music Club, SIAS to present Sangam — a mesmerising showcase of classical Indian dance and music. The event beautifully highlighted the elegance of five iconic dance forms: Kathak, Odissi, Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi and Mohiniattam, each telling stories through intricate movements and expressions.
The performance was elevated by live music that echoed the richness of these dance styles. Tabla, mridangam and percussion drums created an intense rhythm, while the violin and guitar added a melodic touch. The ever-flowing sound of the tanpura, combined with melodious vocals, filled the air, creating a seamless blend of music and dance that captivated the audience. Sangam was a celebration of India's classical traditions, leaving the audience in awe of the powerful synergy between dance and music. A truly unforgettable evening!
