ABOUT THE TALK

What is translation to a translator? What is translation to an editor? For whom do we translate? This conversation between Rahul Soni, Editor-at-Large with HarperCollins Publishers India, and a founding editor of South Parade, a print-only journal of literature from the Global South, and Manasvin Rajagopalan, Assistant Professor of Literature, SIAS explores the complexities of translation, its practice, and its increasing relevance in the contemporary world.

This talk is mandatory for students of LITT 316: Introduction to Translation. All others are welcome.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Rahul Soni is a writer, editor, and translator based in India. He serves as an Editor-at-Large
with HarperCollins Publishers India and is a founding editor of South Parade, a print-only journal of literature from the Global South. Since joining HarperCollins in 2017, Rahul has acquired and edited books that have become among the country’s best-selling and most acclaimed literary works. His editorial projects have won major Indian awards and been shortlisted for international honors, including the Booker Prize, the JCB Prize for Literature, the DSC Prize for South Asian Literature, and the Pulitzer Prize.
