Professor Ruggeiro will speak about development challenges in urban spaces based on his research work on the Pirelli company and the city of Milan. He will also talk about the urbanisation-globalisation nexus and government strategies to upscale a city’s position in the global urban hierarchies.

Professor Dr Luca Ruggiero is a full Professor of Economic and Political Geography at the Department of Political and Social Sciences of the University of Catania, Sicily, Italy (IT). He has received an MA from the University of Warwick (UK) and a PhD from the University of Sassari (IT). His research focuses on land financialization, competing visions and politics of the smart city, urban and social conflicts for environmental and climatic justice.
