With the arrival of new students and the return of familiar faces after the break, the Krea campus is once again alive with energy and purpose. The start of the new trimester has brought with it a renewed sense of momentum. The classrooms, corridors, and common spaces are abuzz as students, faculty, and staff immerse themselves in academic life and community activities. Orientation programmes are in full swing, and the pulse of campus life is finding its stride once again.
The circle is full and growing. With a larger, more vibrant community, there’s an even greater sense of possibility in the air. This trimester marks not just a continuation, but a fresh opportunity to build, learn, and collaborate. There’s much to accomplish, and the journey ahead promises to be one of challenge, growth, and shared purpose. As we set our sights on what lies ahead, we move forward together.

The inaugural day of Kreators’ Mosaic, our Orientation Programme for the incoming Cohort of 2025 – 29 at the School of Interwoven Arts and Sciences (SIAS), was a vibrant beginning to what promises to be an exciting week. From warm welcomes to thought-provoking sessions, Day 1 set the tone for a journey of discovery, community, and connection. But that’s just the beginning. A full slate of engaging activities, workshops, and immersive experiences are lined up for the rest of the week; all designed to help our newest Kreators dive into the Krea ethos and make meaningful connections.

Dr Vivek Tewary, Assistant Professor, Mathematics, SIAS and Sayantan Datta, Assistant Professor of Practice, Centre for Writing & Pedagogy (Krea-CWP) have been awarded a Small Research Grant by the Foundation for Advancement of Science & Technology (FAST) India under their India Science Book Fellowship scheme. The award will support the duo in writing their popular science book tentatively titled Equations of Life: How the Living World Speaks Mathematics, and Why We Should Learn to Listen.

Krea University and RAM Foundation bring together a brand new initiative — Krea RAM Maths Circle, starting August 2025. This one year programme is ideal for high schoolers from grade 6 to 8 who are passionate and curious about Mathematics. The programme entails weekly sessions every Sunday from 10.00 am - 1.00 pm, at Krea University Admin Office, Alwarpet, Chennai. Deadline to apply: 22 July 2025. Know more

Chennai Combinatorics Colloquium

Krea University is now a member institute of the Chennai Combinatorics Colloquium — a monthly talk series hosted in rotation by five institutions: IIT Madras, IMSc Chennai, CMI, ISI Chennai, and Krea University at Sri City. This month’s talk will be held on 25 July 2025, from 4:00 to 5:30 pm at Ramanujan Auditorium, The Institute of Mathematical Sciences (IMSc) Chennai. The speaker is Professor Gaurav Bhatnagar, known for his work in special functions, combinatorics, and elementary number theory, with a particular interest in Ramanujan’s mathematics.

Dr Praveen Bhagawan, Associate Professor, Finance, Accounting and Quantitative Finance, IFMR GSB presented one of his research papers (co-authored with Dr Jyoti Prasad Mukhopadhyay, Associate Professor, Economics and Chairperson - PhD Programme, IFMR GSB and Navya Muricken, faculty member at ICFAI Business School, Bangalore) titled ‘Does Female Presence on Corporate Boards matter for Firm`s Cost of Equity? Evidence from Indian Firms’ at the 2025 Vietnam Symposium in Entrepreneurship, Finance, and Innovation (VSEFI2025), held in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Dr Praveen Bhagawan, Associate Professor, Finance, Accounting and Quantitative Finance, IFMR GSB also presented another research paper (co-authored with Dr Jyoti Prasad Mukhopadhyay, Associate Professor, Economics and Chairperson - PhD Programme, IFMR GSB and PhD scholar Soumyabrata Basu) titled ‘Creditor Rights and Tax Avoidance: Evidence from Quasi-natural Experiment in India’ at Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIMC). He also interacted with PhD students of IIMC and provided feedback on their papers.

Gautham Warrier, Teaching Fellow of Sociology and Social Anthropology, SIAS presented their paper at the 9th Congress of the Portuguese Anthropological Association (APA), held from 14 to 18 July. The paper, ‘Reflections and Portraits: An Autoethnographic Exploration of Trans*- Queer Orientations and Reconstitutions in Binary-Gendered Spaces’ was presented in the panel titled “Rompendo Véus: (re)existências e vivências de corpos subversives*” translated in English as “Breaking Veils: (Re)existences and Lived Experiences of Subversive Bodies”.

A research paper co-authored by Dr Suresh Govindapuram, Assistant Professor, Economics, IFMR GSB titled Assessing Energy Efficiency of the Indian Chemical Industry: Examining the Role of Innovation and Regional Heterogeneity, has been published in the Energy Nexus journal.

We are delighted to share that Inika Khosla, Alum, SIAS Cohort of 2020 – 2023, has had her Psychology capstone dissertation published in the Cambridge Journal of Human Behaviour. Titled Exploring Community-based Alcohol Rehabilitation in India: A Case Study of a Community Rehabilitation and Support Centre, the paper was guided by Dr Sabah Siddiqui, Assistant Professor, Psychology, SIAS.
