A Round-up of the Kreaverse

In a recent conversation, one of our alumni fondly recounted her memories at Krea with special mention of the campus that turns a second home for all our students the moment they step in. She spoke of the residences, the bonds, the cycling, the sports and the sunsets amongst so much more. This made us think, how each of us, students, faculty and staff have innumerable unique memories of our own here. Every corner of the Krea campus holds a story, a memory etched in our minds, a moment from our lives, of joys and challenges. From the first steps along the corridors, to bonds forged in classrooms, perimeter walks, adrenaline pumping on the sports field, late night walks, hours spent in the library, heads put together in the labs, and how can we forget the piping hot coffee with puffs at Narasimhulu’s; this is where it all begins, the story of university life. Through the scorching heat, balmy mornings, cool evening breezes, and pitter patter of the rains, the Krea campus has always been more than a space, it has been an emotion.

In the coming weeks we hope to celebrate these various nooks and corners of our campus through a warm photo series—and we’d love for you to participate. Here’s to memories and moments housed in this beautiful campus. Until then, for this week’s updates, please keep scrolling and if you have stories or news to share with the Krea community, we invite you to connect with us at all.commsteam@krea.edu.in

Minds Brains & Machines

In the first of many, Krea University organised a week-long workshop on the Cognitive Sciences —  Minds, Brains & Machines. Held from 12-16 May 2025, this year’s focus was on Natural Language — its computational complexity, challenges in artificial implementation, and insights into human brain evolution. This interdisciplinary workshop brought together experts from diverse fields and from across the globe. Speakers included Professor Tobias Scheer, CNRS, Université Côte d'Azur; Professor Arild Hestvik, University of Delaware; Professor S Bapiraju, IIIT Hyderabad; Professor Pritha Chandra and Professor Paroma Sanyal, IIT Delhi; Professor Vaijayanthi Sarma, IIT Bombay; Professor Jooyong Kim, IIT Gandhinagar; Dr Naveen Bhatraju, Ashoka University; Professor T V H Prathamesh and Professor Rakesh Sengupta, Krea University. Participants gained a deeper understanding of how minds and brains process information and the implications for Artificial General Intelligence. The workshop was co-sponsored by Tiden Technologies.

Here is a glimpse of the week that was.

Solutions for Bengaluru’s Flooding Woes

Bengaluru’s flooding challenges can’t be solved with more concrete. In an article for Deccan Herald, Kaylea Brase Menon and Anam Husain, researchers at WELL Labs explore how nature-based solutions can help manage stormwater more effectively—especially in areas like Manyata Tech Park, which sits at a critical point in the Hebbal-Nagavara valley. They make the case that rather than expanding grey infrastructure, we need to restore and work with existing hydrological systems—lakes, streams, and soil—to capture, store, and gradually release rainwater into the ground.
