The Kreaverse has been abuzz with energy, featuring cultural celebrations, engaging competitions, thought-provoking exhibitions and topical discussions. Meanwhile, prospective students got a glimpse of life at Krea through immersive campus visits, embracing the university's unique ethos of Interwoven Learning. Kaustav Mehta, Teaching Fellow, Data Science, School of Interwoven Arts and Sciences (SIAS) recently presented a poster at NetsciX 2025, IIT Indore. This work stems from Kaustav’s third-year undergraduate capstone project at Krea University, conducted under the supervision of Dr Shyam Kumar Sudhakar, Assistant Professor, Biological Sciences, SIAS. Their research, titled ‘Exploring Comorbidity Networks in Mild Traumatic Brain Injury Subjects through Graph Theory: A Traumatic Brain Injury Model Systems Study’, has been developed into a journal paper and poster. The paper is currently under editorial review.

Malyaj Jain, MBA Cohort of 2025, IFMR Graduate School of Business (GSB) has won the Young Business Leader competition, the flagship event at T. A. Pai Management Institute (TAPMI), held on 18 and 19 January 2025. This remarkable achievement comes with a cash prize of Rs 60,000.

Dr Chirag Dhara, Assistant Professor, Environmental Studies, SIAS was recently invited to The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) and IIT Bombay to deliver research talks. Dr Dhara delivered a talk on, ‘The role of historic global inequality in avoiding climate destabilisation’ at TISS and two talks titled, ‘What levels of development can humanity sustainably aspire to?’ and ‘An interpretational lens to understand climate performance indices’ at IIT Bombay.

On 15 January 2025, first-year students of the course Philosophical Perspectives Across Cultures (PHP), coordinated by Dr Sambaiah Gundimeda — Associate Professor, Politics, SIAS — and the course instructor, organised a poster exhibition. This event was an integral part of their coursework, showcasing the dynamic interplay between philosophy and culture through the students' reflections and creativity.
The exhibition provided students with a valuable opportunity to extend their learning beyond the classroom. Their enthusiasm was evident in the thoughtful and engaging posters they presented.

On 20 January 2025, the MUN Club of IFMR GSB organised a Lok Sabha simulation on ‘One Nation, One Election: A Viable Reform’. Students participated as members of the ruling and opposition parties, debating the feasibility and implications of synchronising elections nationwide.
The bill was introduced by Amit Shah, the Home Minister and sparked rigorous discussions. While the opposition raised concerns about regional representation and logistical challenges, the ruling party highlighted the benefits of cost reduction and streamlined governance.

After an intense debate, the bill was successfully passed in the voting round. The event offered students a hands-on understanding of parliamentary procedures and enhanced their debating skills, reflecting the vibrant academic culture at IFMR GSB.

Dancing Their Way to Glory

Dance Alchemy, organised by Nritya, the Dance Club of IFMR GSB, on 18 January 2025, provided batchmates a much-needed break from their hectic schedules. The event featured multiple rounds, each bringing its own set of challenges and excitement, culminating in a grand celebration.

Last Friday, the Sri City campus came alive with a traditional celebration, bringing staff members together for a morning filled with culture, connection and shared joy. Organised as part of the HR team’s new employee engagement initiative, the event provided an opportunity to embrace tradition while fostering camaraderie and strengthening bonds.
Dressed in traditional attire, the staff participated in a variety of fun activities and games, adding an extra layer of excitement to the celebration. The HR team extends its heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to making this gathering a vibrant and meaningful experience for the entire community.

Last weekend, students from Round 1 and Round 2 applications had the opportunity to visit our campus and get a first-hand experience of life at Krea. From exploring our state-of-the-art infrastructure to participating in interactive academic sessions, they got a glimpse of our interdisciplinary learning approach. The visit also included engaging conversations with senior students, faculty, and staff, providing insights into the vibrant community and the unique opportunities that await them at Krea. It was an inspiring weekend filled with exploration, connection and discovery.

The US Consulate recently hosted a fireside chat titled Art for Social Change: How Cultural Institutions and Artists Can Provide Context and Space for Social Debates. The discussion featured Dr Aaron Bryant, Museum Curator at the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture; Dr Swarnamalya Ganesh, Assistant Professor of Practice, SIAS and Director of Ranga Mandira Academy of World Dance/Performance and Indic Studies and Dr Radhika Sharaf, Associate Editor at ASAP | art, an online platform for lens-based practices in South Asia.

Krea-CWP and the Mathematics Discipline recently concluded their online symposium titled ‘Reflections on the Teaching of Reading & Writing in STEMM’. The symposium, held from 17-19 January 2025, was co-organised by Neha Mishra and Sayantan Datta, Assistant Professors of Practice, Krea-CWP and Dr Vivek Tewary, Assistant Professor, Mathematics, SIAS.

The symposium featured welcome addresses by Professor K VijayRaghavan, Former Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India; Prof K N Raghavan, Professor, Mathematics, Krea University and Dr Anannya Dasgupta, Director, Krea-CWP. Professor Lara Alcock from Loughborough University delivered the keynote lecture on ‘Effective Mathematical Reading’. Presentations at the symposium touched upon the teaching of reading and writing in various STEMM disciplines, including science education, mathematics and engineering. Some of the presentations also discussed training scientists in writing for a non-expert audience as well as how writing pedagogy empowers students of science to be better at their disciplines.

The final day of the symposium featured writing workshops aimed at helping speakers develop their presentations into manuscripts for publication. Professor Madhura Lohokare from the OP Jindal Global University joined Dr Anannya Dasgupta and the Organising Committee in facilitating these workshops. A subset of the presentations will be developed into papers for an upcoming special issue of Contemporary Education Dialogue (Sage), co-edited by Neha Mishra, Sayantan Datta and Dr Vivek Tewary.

IFMR GSB in collaboration with the Institute for New Economic Thinking (INET) and the Young Scholars Initiative (YSI), invites PhD scholars and early-career researchers (within five years of completing their PhD) to submit papers for a three-day conference on Climate Change Adaptation and Resilience in Agriculture: Strategies for Sustainable Development in South Asia. The deadline has been extended to 31 January 2025.
