A Roundup of the Kreaverse
|
Every week, this roundup becomes a way for us to pause and listen to the rhythms of our campus, what we call the Kreaverse. We see it in ideas taking shape inside classrooms, in long hours of research, in workshops, talks, shared gatherings, and in the everyday conversations between students and faculty. Even when campus slows down, the stories rarely do. Our social media spaces continue to carry alumni journeys, new courses, capstone reflections, research, conversations, and moments that return to us in different forms. Perhaps that reflects the kind of academic community we are building together, one where learning extends beyond classrooms and trimesters, continuing through people, ideas, memories, and the many paths they take beyond campus.

Dr Rakesh Sengupta, Assistant Professor, Psychology, School of Interwoven Arts and Sciences (SIAS) has co-developed DyscalcBattery, an open-source cognitive screening tool designed for dyscalculia screening and numerosity perception research. Developed as an open-source platform, the tool is specifically designed for multilingual and low-resource field deployments, enabling researchers and educators to conduct cognitive screening using low-end laptops and tablets. The tool is currently being used in a large-scale field study involving school children in Warangal, Telangana.

Dr Madhavilatha Maganti, Associate Professor, Psychology, SIAS, has authored a paper titled Sociocentric and Cosmocentric Coping: Cultural Logics of Parenting During Crisis in Low-Resource Indian Families, published in Human Arenas, a Springer Nature Journal. The study explores how parents from economically marginalised communities in urban Delhi coped with the COVID-19 crisis through relational, moral, and faith-based practices rather than individual stress management alone. It highlights culturally grounded forms of coping centred on family well-being, caregiving, endurance, and meaning-making in contexts of structural vulnerability.

Sathyanarayanan Ramachandran, Sundram Fasteners Associate Professor, Marketing, IFMR Graduate School of Business (GSB), has authored an article titled When Brands Go Off-Label: From KitKat Crackers to Gandhi Cigarettes, published in ET Brand Equity from The Economic Times. From the shocking Mahatma Gandhi Cigarettes to Facebook Flowerpots to Chiranjeevi Dhabas, celebrity and leading brand names have long served as powerful attention magnets. Some uses are authorised, while some are not. The article explores what such cases mean for brand managers: when to tolerate, when to intervene, and how brands such as Netflix, FedEx, and Rolls-Royce have responded to similar situations. It also draws on academic research on the possible benefits of open branding.
