A research article by Dr Randhir Rai, Visiting Faculty, Chemistry, SIAS, titled, Catalytic application of second cycle copper-based laboratory waste forsynthesis of beta-keto-1,2,3-triazole: A micro circular economy approach has been published in the Elsevier journal. This study follows the circular economy principle to explore the catalytic potential of second-cycle cuprous oxide laboratory waste. Undergraduate students generated cuprous oxide as a second cycle waste during a practical session, where they used an aqueous solution of recycled copper sulfate pentahydrate as a Fehling’s reagent A.

Pulicat Bird Atlas, a three-day bird count survey, was a collaborative effort involving the newly formed Tirupati Nature Society, which anchored the event, along with IISER Tirupati, IIT-Tirupati and Krea University. The event brought together bird enthusiasts from across India, including volunteers from Krea University. The survey took place in the ecologically rich areas of Pulicat Lake and Sri City, where the team had the opportunity to observe over 150 bird species. This study was significant as it contributed to ongoing efforts to monitor and conserve biodiversity in the region. The bird count provided valuable data on bird populations, distribution and habitat preferences, which are crucial for understanding ecological trends and guiding conservation strategies.

The students of the Environmental Communication course showcased their exhibits on the 7 and 8 January 2025 on campus. Each year, the course is structured around a specific theme, and this year, the theme was Extinction. In the first few weeks, students read up on various institutional and legal aspects of conservation both nationally and internationally. In the following weeks, they read several non-fiction narratives on extinction and conservation while working on their own narrative non-fiction piece about a species of their choice. The exhibition was the culmination of their work, representing an effort to translate what they had learned into immersive, visual, and public-facing artefacts.

Arts 338, an art elective at SIAS, faced numerous disruptions due to breaks, rains, and cyclones, which interfered with the making and drying cycle of the Jaali making course.
However the students adapted and rallied, to innovatively make mock ups of their Jaali patterns on paper to display alongside their sketches, molds and maquettes.
In this course, students study the history and functionality of the traditional perforated screens, known as jaalis. They then learn how to take inspiration from nature, design their own and attempt to create them in clay.
