A Round-up of the Kreaverse

Time flies, and with it comes a wave of fresh energy as we welcome a new batch to the IFMR Graduate School of Business (GSB), Krea University. This past week has been brimming with fresh starts and lofty aspirations as students embark on their journeys in the 2 year MBA and 5 year Integrated BBA+MBA programmes.
The vibrant spirit of the Kreaverse is in full swing as new students dive into an array of exciting and enriching events. Simultaneously, we eagerly anticipate the arrival of the incoming cohort at the School of Interwoven Arts and Sciences (SIAS). The campus is abuzz with positivity, with returning students resuming classes and new students starting to script their own stories.
It's both refreshing and heartwarming to see students, from both schools, sharing their internship and placement experiences on social media. Guided by their mentors, many have ventured far and showcased their capabilities through impressive work. Here's to more such inspiring stories ahead.

Soumyabrata Basu, PhD student, IFMR GSB, Krea University presented a paper titled Creditor Rights and Firm’s Cost of Debt: Empirical Evidence from Indian Firms at the International Conference on Financial Markets & Corporate Finance (ICFMCF) 2024, held on 6 and 7 July, 2024 at IIT Dhanbad. The paper was awarded the First Prize in the Best Research Paper category. It was co-authored with Dr Praveen Bhagawan, Associate Professor and Area Chair of Finance, Accounting, and Quantitative Finance, IFMR GSB, Krea University and Dr Jyoti Prasad Mukhopadhyay, Associate Professor & Area Chair of Economics and Chairperson, PhD Programme, IFMR GSB, Krea University. This prestigious conference is jointly organised every year by seven IITs: IIT Madras, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Kanpur, IIT Roorkee and IIT Dhanbad.

Professor Guha Dharmarajan, Professor of Biology, SIAS, Krea University is an invited speaker at a workshop on Emerging infectious diseases: ecology and evolution, taking place on 1–12 July, 2024 at the International Centre for Theoretical Sciences, Bangalore. In his talks, Professor Guha Dharmarajan provides a broad overview of pathogen spillover dynamics leading to the emergence of zoonotic diseases, like COVID-19.

Dr Swarnamalya Ganesh, Assistant Professor of Practice, SIAS, Krea University has contributed a chapter to the book titled Ganika – In The Visual Culture Of The 19th-20th Century India, published by the National Crafts Museum, MATI and Naithani Foundation. In this book, a group of scholars have come together to image a collection of visual cultures associated with the Ganika, as a Devadasi and a Courtesan. Dr Ganesh’s section of the book examines the accoutrements of the Sadir performer, costumes and jewellery, their history, circulation and provenance.

The May edition of the International Culture & Art magazine, Pakistan has featured the profile of Dr Swarnamalya Ganesh and the work that she presented at the Faiz Festival 2024 held on 9 – 11 February, 2024 in Lahore, Pakistan.

From leading teams to designing net zero buildings, winners of international commerce Olympiads, avid sports persons with national and international representation to their name, vocal artists, business strategists and so much more. These are artists, architects, lawyers, engineers, mathematicians, psychologists, computer wizards, and so much more; now together in the journey to be business leaders who will lead the change. The MBA cohort of 2024-2026 IFMR GSB, Krea University has 269 young minds from 140 cities & towns in 19 states and 1 Union Territory. While the cohort of the 5 year Integrated BBA+MBA Programme comprises 71 students, with 31 male and 40 female students. They hail from 5 countries, 13 states, 1 Union Territory, and 37 cities.

We continued with our long-standing tradition of Prarambh which translates to new beginnings and sums up the sentiment of the multi-day orientation programme for the incoming MBA cohort, as we welcomed them into the rich academic, social and cultural life within the Kreaverse.
Speckled with activities, conversations and dollops of fun, Prarambh included addresses and sessions from key stakeholders at IFMR GSB, Krea University ushering the students into the B-School life. From placements, campus life, student services, to clubs and committees each chapter that beckoned were explored. There were also sessions on mental well-being, business etiquettes, disability sensitisation, substance and drug awareness, case study workshop and much more. Sessions which pulled them into the high adrenaline life of an MBA and there were some which were apt for when one wishes to pause, take a step back and relax amid the chaos that comes with University life. All with the promise of a joyful, challenging and fulfilling 24 months ahead.

Brimming with energy, activities, and lively interactions, the Orientation Programme for the 5 year Integrated BBA+MBA Programme at IFMR GSB, Krea University on 6 July, 2024 warmly welcomed new students into their academic journey. Key stakeholders delivered inspiring addresses, guiding students into the vibrant life of a business school. From career services, campus experiences, and student support, to a variety of clubs and committees, every aspect of student life was introduced. Some sessions immersed students in the fast-paced world of business education, while others offered moments of reflection and relaxation amidst the bustling university environment. Together, these elements set the stage for an exciting, challenging, and rewarding years ahead.
