Krea Summer School (KSS) 2025 is a week-long immersive residential programme that introduces students to a wide variety of established and emerging fields of inquiry not covered in school curricula. The programme will be hosted at our lush green and state-of-the-art campus and will include an interesting mix of academics and experiential workshops.

Turzo Nicholas Mondal, PhD student, School of Interwoven Arts and Sciences (SIAS) and Dr Annu Jalais, Associate Professor of Anthropology, SIAS presented their paper at the International Symposium on Precarious Water Futures and End(s) of World(s) — an Integrative Dialogue Across Disciplines and Societies organised by Käte Hamburger Center for Apocalyptic and Post Apocalyptic Studies (CAPAS), Heidelberg University, Germany. The conference was held at the India International Centre, New Delhi. They also participated in a stimulating round-table discussion on the Sundarbans with other Sundarbans experts.

Sayantan Datta, Assistant Professor of Practice, Centre for Writing and Pedagogy, Krea University, Krea-CWP, delivered the 85th Popular Science Lecture at the Anna Centenary Library, recently. This lecture was part of the Tamil Nadu Science Forum's (TNSF's) efforts to popularise science to the general public and students pursuing science as a career.
In this lecture, Datta summarised recent scientific studies that report ‘intelligent behavior’ in ‘brainless’ organisms: learning and memory in non-neuronal cells and problem-solving in slime molds. In doing so, they dwelled on the possibilities and opportunities offered by these findings – for science and for humanity. Watch the session here

Nickhil Sharma, Visiting Faculty, SIAS, appeared on BBC Norfolk Radio to talk about his research on smart meters in Great Britain. On 11 November 2024, he participated in an interview with BBC Norfolk Radio, where they explored the rollout of smart meters in Great Britain. Despite being one of the most expensive government-initiated programs in British history, these internet-enabled energy meters have faced criticism for failing to meet targets and not performing as expected.

Dr Madhavilatha Maganti, Associate Professor of Psychology, SIAS and Dr Sayantan Mandal, Visiting Assistant Professor of Psychology, SIAS will be presenting research papers at SAFAL-2024, one of the more prestigious and competitive cognitive science and psycholinguistics conferences organised by the Association of Cognitive Science at IIT Bombay. Also presenting at the conference is second year SIAS student, Aarthi Venkatesh. Four papers from the Psychology research lab have been selected for this prestigious conference. Vijaya Chandramouleswaran, Senior Faculty Associate of Finance, Accounting, and Quantitative Finance at IFMR Graduate School of Business (GSB), has co-authored a research paper titled Tracking Smart Beta Indices During Different Market Phases: A “Smarter” Option for Passive Investors? with Professor Thenmozhi M from the Department of Management Studies, IIT Madras. The paper has been published in the Journal of Indian Business Research.

Kumar Ashuthosh, a fifth-year PhD student at IFMR GSB, has published an article titled Street Safety and Girls’ Secondary Schooling in India on the web portal Ideas for India (I4I). I4I is an economics and policy platform that features evidence-based analysis and commentary on issues related to growth and development in India. Established in July 2012 by a group of economists from the International Growth Centre (IGC), I4I operates under the joint direction of the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and the University of Oxford.

Aarthi Venkatesh, a second year Psychology student at SIAS, has been selected to present her research at the South Asian Forum on the Acquisition and Processing of Language (SAFAL) - 2024, one of the more prestigious and competitive cognitive science and psycholinguistics conferences organised by the Association of Cognitive Science at IIT Bombay. Aarthi will be presenting her research on generational differences in abstract knowledge and motor association in natural language verbs.

As part of the Retail Management course, Dr Debankur Saha, Assistant Professor of Marketing, IFMR GSB organised a field visit in Chennai to expose students to diverse retail formats and provide firsthand insights into retail operations. The students explored stores of varying sizes and analysed Stock Keeping Units (SKU), pricing strategies, promotional designs, channel partnerships and store layouts while observing how retailers create hedonic shopping experiences. A memorable highlight was witnessing actor, choreographer and director Prabhudeva at a store opening, offering a unique perspective on how celebrity events drive footfall and brand buzz. This immersive experience bridged the gap between theory and practice, sparking curiosity and excitement among the students and emphasising the value of experiential learning.

A First Aid and CPR Training Session was conducted recently on campus by Dr Shyam, an experienced medical practitioner from Kauvery Hospital. The session was highly informative and practical, offering essential life-saving skills. It provided an excellent opportunity to learn first aid basics and CPR techniques. Kauvery Hospital issued certificates of participation at the end of this training.

Over the week, the Literature Society at Krea University organised a series of engaging workshops and sessions. The first was a workshop titled Imagery and Juxtaposition: How to Haiku, conducted by Dr Annanya Dasgupta on 27 November 2024. As the Director of Krea-CWP and an Associate Professor of Literature, SIAS, Dr Dasgupta guided participants in reading and practicing the art of writing haiku. The second one was a virtual Creative Writing Talk on 26 November 2024 by Sarah Braunstein, a writer and teacher based in Maine. The third one was another virtual Creative Writing Talk on 28 November 2024 by Nandini Nair, a journalist.

The Office of Student Life (OSL) hosted a vibrant Performing Arts event on 27 November 2024. The evening featured a captivating live music performance by Dr Dipanjali Deka, Visiting Assistant Professor, Krea - CWP. The event, held at SH3, brought together students and faculty for an inspiring showcase of musical artistry.

On 23 November 2024, the Centre for Entrepreneurship (CFE) at Krea University hosted a thought-provoking session with Chandrashekar Kupperi, founder of Peaceful Progress Angel VC Fund, renowned for investing in startups like Bombay Shaving Company, Kredily and Garuda Aerospace.
In his session, Kupperi shared a holistic framework for entrepreneurship, emphasising the balance of reasoning (the head), emotion (the heart), and instinct (the gut) in decision-making. He urged budding entrepreneurs to focus on simplicity — Keep It Short and Simple and to present ideas in a way that investors can easily grasp.

Kupperi highlighted the essential qualities investors seek: a clear problem, an actionable answer, and solid evidence. He spoke about the importance of credibility, market understanding, and the ability to showcase traction. The audience was encouraged to structure their pitch using the PACKET approach: Problem, Answer, Credibility, Know-how, Evidence, and The Ask. He left the audience with a powerful takeaway: the magic of thinking big.

Her Campus recently collaborated with the AKS Foundation to host a thought-provoking three-part webinar series focused on building a safer and more inclusive world.
• In the first session, the discussants explored the distinction between sex and gender, challenging participants to recognise how societal expectations often associate specific professions with particular genders

• In the second session, the discussants shared valuable insights on recognising and addressing consent violations, fostering a culture of respect and empathy
• In the third session, the discussants emphasised personal rights, identifying red flags in relationships and supporting others in abusive or unhealthy situations

Corporate Relations and Career Services at IFMR GSB invited Bhaskar Banerjee, Partner & Business Head and CFO, and a seasoned finance leader for its latest guest lecture on 24 November 2024.
The session, titled ‘Embracing the Change: Performance with Impact, How Mindset is Key to Building a Great Career, and Current Scenario of Indian Financial Market, Future Prospects, and Skill Demands,’ delved into strategies for navigating career growth, the importance of mindset in achieving impactful performance and offered insights into India's financial market trends and future opportunities.

The Career Services & Partnerships Office at Krea University hosted the third edition of Higher Education Day on 27 November 2024 at the Krea University campus.
This year’s Higher Education Day brought together representatives from seven countries and over 20 prestigious universities worldwide, such as the University of Liverpool, Queen Mary University of London, University of Otago, Audencia Business School, Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), Trinity College Dublin, Bocconi University, Indiana University Indianapolis, The University of Utah, IE University, Northeastern University and University of Nebraska – Lincoln. Country representatives like Campus France, Think New Zealand, United States – India Educational Foundation (USIEF), Austradde and education consultants like IDP Education were also present.

In its second collaboration with SPIC MACAY, OSL is bringing a live Jazz experience featuring the Jazz Explorer Trio. The acclaimed Scandinavian trio — Lars Møller (saxophone), Thor Madsen (guitar) and Jonas Johansen (drums) — will be performing selections from their latest album, which includes a reimagining of Miles Davis's iconic Kind of Blue. With a groovy and bluesy sound, the trio combines improvisation and deep cultural influences, including Indian classical music, for a fresh approach to contemporary jazz.
