A Round-up of the Kreaverse
|
October is drawing to a close, with a gentle nip in the air, festivities all around and the comfort that comes from the knowledge that everything we do, we do with optimism and ingenuity. We find direction in steering a system of learning, which also teaches our young learners empathy, gratitude and mindfulness. At Krea, we believe that knowledge should encourage hope, innovation and empowerment; attributes that enable young graduates to have agency in making a positive impact in the broader world. Education that emphasises on the bigger picture goals, plucking dreams out of the clouds and setting it into action. We are creating an agenda for hope, a solid cornerstone for a peaceful and just world of the future.
After a short break and pause from campus, students will soon be back with accelerated momentum to continue writing the stories they have envisioned for themselves at Krea — stories of courage, determination and strong leadership.
Like all other weeks, this week too, the Krea community continued with initiatives that fuel our vision forward. For real-time updates, please do follow us on our social media channels. If you have stories or news to share with the Krea community, we invite you to connect with us at all.commsteam@krea.edu.in

The Start of Experimental Atmospheric and Space Research at Krea
|
|
|
This week, Krea University installed an instrument to measure very low frequency radio emissions caused by lightning. The instrument is a passive VLF receiver and is provided by the University of Washington. Krea joins a worldwide network of about 80 such stations monitoring lightning activity globally by hosting the receiver. This instrument has potential to measure signals called 'sferics' that are emitted by lightning occurring within a large area, even up to and above 10000 km from our site. The instrument is sensitive to electromagnetic waves in the frequency range of 0 - 24 kHz. For instance, a radio wave of 1 kHz frequency is 300 km long and that of 24 kHz is 12.5 km long. These waves will be trapped between ground and about 80 km altitude where earth's upper atmosphere has an electrically conducting layer called 'ionosphere'. Such trapping enables their propagation to 1000s of km. The measurements are time synchronised with GPS signals and transmitted to the server hosted by University of Washington. By combining such datasets from multiple locations, they will carry out a type of cross correlation analysis to find the source location and other characteristics of lightning. As a partner of the project, we will have access to this global dataset with a latency of 2 days as well. This project implies the start of experimental Atmospheric and Space research at Krea University and we hope our student community will get interested and benefitted by working with such experiments.

Abhinay, the Drama Club of IFMR GSB, captivated audiences with their poignant play, Roshni, staged at Krea University on 19 October, 2024. The play illustrates the tale of Roshni, an ordinary girl who lives in a conservative hamlet, where social forces push girls to marry off early. The play traces the story through Roshni and her experiences, and Balbeer, her father, who is driven by family expectations and personal preference rather than concern for her future.
In the climax, the protagonist, Balbeer, realises his folly, but it is too late. The play condemns outdated traditions, also calling for young girls to pursue their aspirations rather than be confined by societal conventions. The performance received widespread acclaim for its impactful message and powerful delivery. Read more

Over the weekend, the campus transformed into a vibrant retro haven with Reteroverse. Students from all cohorts gathered for an unforgettable celebration of the 70s, 80s and 90s. The campus buzzed with neon lights and vintage decor, setting the tone for a nostalgic weekend. Vibrant styles, featuring iconic elements like polka dots, suspenders, flared sleeves, bell-bottoms evoking the glamorous era of 70s and 80s Bollywood during the retro-themed fashion show, while enthusiastic sing-alongs echoed classic hits.

Dance-offs and choreographies got everyone moving to iconic tunes. Meanwhile, a retro trivia challenge tested knowledge of bygone eras.
