This lecture series at Krea University, proposed by Professor Nirmala Rao, Vice Chancellor, Krea University, addresses current issues in world politics to promote local, national, and global engagement among the student body. Upcoming lecture themes include international humanitarian law, water and environmental security, challenges of climate change, war and forced migration, refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs), global governance and political thought. The lectures will be delivered by a diverse range of academics and practitioners, offering Krea students an invaluable opportunity to connect their academic studies to real-world issues and engage with leading experts. The series will be convened by Sherman Teichman, Emeritus Founding Director of The Institute for Global Leadership at Tufts University (1984-2016).
ABOUT THE TALK
This talk will look at the past and current impact of the global food system on the environment. It will explore how we got to where we are today, as well as the most significant issues and trends that will shape the food system's future and what is expected from it. What is more sustainable today will not be tomorrow. We need 60-80% absolute reductions of the most important impacts to address food's impact on climate change and the planet. The speaker will identify and discuss some of the strategies and solutions that appear most promising in delivering the desired results.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Dr Jason Clay
Dr Jason Clay is Senior Vice President, Markets Institute at World Wildlife Fund (WWF). He leads the work of World Wildlife Fund (WWF)-US on Markets and how companies manage supply chains and the Markets Institute whose goal is to identify and create awareness about global issues and trends on the horizon for food and soft commodities and then build consensus about how to best anticipate them. Dr Clay launched WWF’s work on agriculture, livestock, aquaculture, finance and reshaped our work with the private sector and on fisheries. During his career he has worked on a family farm and in the US Department of Agriculture; taught at Harvard and Yale; and spent more than 35 years working in human rights and environmental organizations. Dr Clay authored many books and articles. His most recent books are World Aquaculture and the Environment, and Exploring the Links between International Business and Poverty Reduction: A Case Study of Unilever in Indonesia.
